Getting Certified with the Institute for Supply Management?

The Institute for Supply Management, or ISM, was founded in 1915 with a mission “to enhance the value and performance of procurement and supply chain management practitioners and their organizations worldwide.” One of the ways they help to execute this mission is by offering the Certified Professional in Supply Management® (CPSM®) and Certified Professional in Supplier Diversity® (CPSD™) qualifications. What is the CPSM® certification?

The Certified Professional in Supply Management® (CPSM®) designation signifies that you possess the knowledge, skills and abilities required to meet an established level of competency in the field of supply management in areas such as finance, supplier relationship management, organizational global strategy and risk compliance.

What are the Requirements?

• Three years of full-time, professional supply management experience (nonclerical, nonsupport) with a bachelor’s degree from regionally accredited institution or international equivalent

OR

• Five years of full-time, professional supply management experience (nonclerical, nonsupport) without a qualified bachelor’s degree

AND

• Successfully pass three CPSM® Exams, OR, if you are a C.P.M. in good standing, pass the Bridge Exam

What is the CPSD™ certification?

The Certified Professional in Supplier Diversity® (CPSD™) is a professional designation for supply management professionals whose responsibilities include supplier diversity.

What are the Requirements?

• Successfully pass the CPSD™ Exam
• Successfully pass CPSM® Exam 1 — waived if candidate holds a current CPSM® or C.P.M.
• Minimum of five years professional (non-clerical, non-support) supplier diversity or supply management experience (does not need to be primary function), OR three years of professional (non-clerical, non-support) supplier diversity or supply management experience IF the candidate has a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university (or international equivalent).
